Commissioner Wants to Get Fire Chief Selection 'Right The First Time'

As the search continues for a permanent fire chief in Clinton, the Commissioner for Public Health and Safety has named an interim Chief.

Commissioner Danny Ballenger appointed long time fireman David Dallas to the position at the Monday night Council meeting. According to Ballenger, he wants to see the department go in a different direction.

The search for the next fire chief in Clinton remains ongoing. According to Ballenger, he is open to hiring from within the department, but has also received applications from external candidates.

Ballenger says he has several criteria he is looking for in the next fire chief. His biggest points of emphasis are communication and working well with the other firemen on the force.

Ballenger says the numbers are starting to improve on the department. He points to a recent training held where the department was averaging around ten in attendance, and they most recently had 25.
