Local Leaders To Discuss Mental Health Tonight In Clinton

The last few days on Regional Radio News, we've outlined an upcoming documentary on mental health.

Local journalist Edith Brady-Lunny co-produced the documentary, "Shortchanged: Unjailing the Mentally Ill", which outlines the challenges law enforcement faces as it relates to individuals who battle mental health issues and are incarcerated. Following the showing tonight, which is at 6 pm at the First Christian Church in Clinton, a panel of leaders on the front line of the issue will discuss the documentary and how it relates to what is happening in Clinton and DeWitt County.

DeWitt County Sheriff Jered Shofner will be among those on the panel, and he hopes the panel can help raise awareness on the challenges they face and how they are working to keep the public safe.

Lynn Scovill is the Executive Director of the DeWitt County Human Resource Center. She hopes the documentary, and the panel discussion, will lead to more cooperation in the community to get the proper treatment to those who struggle with mental health.
