Bears McDonald Arrested, Then Cut

width=Troubled defensive lineman Ray McDonald was released by the Chicago Bears Monday after being arrested on charges of domestic violence and child endangerment.

Santa Clara, Calif., police said Monday they were dispatched to McDonald's home at 3:48 a.m. local time, where they learned McDonald "physically assaulted the victim while she was holding a baby."

McDonald left the residence before police arrived. He was later located and arrested at a different home in San Jose, which, reports said, belongs to former 49ers teammate Justin Smith.

The Bears signed McDonald on March 24 to a one-year, $1.5 million contract that included no guaranteed money.

The 30-year-old McDonald was arrested in August of last year on domestic violence charges following an altercation with his fiancee at a party in McDonald's home. The 49ers publicly stood by McDonald, allowing him to continue to play while the investigation was ongoing, and the case was later dropped in November due to a lack of evidence.
