With a week to go before the state needs a budget in place, House Democrats are set to pass a $36.3 billion budget.
Speaker of the House Michael Madigan says they are ready to move forward and present the Governor a budget. Madigan says all the Governor wants to do is focus on non-budgetary issues, Rauner’s Turn Around Agenda, and not spending.
With that in mind, Madigan is moving forward and giving the Governor something to focus on.

Before Madigan held a Memorial Day press conference Rauner’s camp released a statement blasting Madigan – saying "Speaker Madigan and the politicians he controls are walking away from the negotiating table and refusing to compromise on critical reforms needed to (turn around) Illinois.”
