State lawmakers reached a deal on a police reform package last month that now awaits the Governors signature.
Representative Art Turner of Chicago says it's a broad based effort to deal with issues that have been magnified since police involved incidents and the public response in Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore.

The legislation doesn't require body cameras but sets guidelines for use of them. Turner notes the legislation also brings more independent oversight in high profile cases.

The legislation also calls for additional training and $6 million in funding for crime labs. A database would also be established to help police departments to search for officers who were terminated with cause or for officers who resigned during a pending investigation.
