Kurt Busch Wins Rain Shortened Race At Michigan

In a race that was stopped four times due to inclement weather, Kurt Busch won Sunday's rain-shortened Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

This scheduled 400-mile race was called after 138 laps had been completed. Severe weather moved over this 2-mile racetrack, forcing NASCAR to display the red flag for the fourth time. Busch, who started 24th, took the lead for the first time on lap 133 when Kyle Larson was forced to pit for fuel. Four laps later, rain began falling on the track. The final two laps ran under caution, as the rain intensified.

Larson, who was attempting to win a Sprint Cup Series race for the first time in his career, gambled on fuel in hopes of the rain arriving at the track while he was in the lead. He held off Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Busch following a restart on lap 130. Larson ended up finishing 17th.

Busch, the driver of the No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet, led only the final six laps for his second win of the season. His first victory this year occurred in April at Richmond, a race delayed one day because of rain. It's the first multi-win season for Busch since 2011, driving for Roger Penske's team at the time.

On Friday, Busch wrecked his primary car during practice and was forced to use a backup car for the remainder of the weekend.

Earnhardt Jr. finished second, while Martin Truex Jr., who won last weekend's race at Pocono, placed third. Matt Kenseth and Joey Logano rounded out the top-five.

Michigan native Brad Keselowski was sixth, followed by Jamie McMurray, Paul Menard, Trevor Bayne and Clint Bowyer.

Kevin Harvick, the defending Sprint Cup champion, led the most laps with 63, but Harvick suffered a flat right-front tire and had to pit on lap 121, putting him one lap down. Harvick wound up finishing 29th.
