>>Padres Fire Manager Bud Black

The San Diego Padres have fired manager Bud Black, the team announced on Monday.

After a busy offseason that saw new general manager A.J. Preller remake the roster by acquiring players such as Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Wil Myers, James Shields, Craig Kimbrel, Derek Norris, Will Middlebrooks and Melvin Upton Jr., San Diego started the season 32-33 and sits six games behind NL West-leading Los Angeles and four behind the Cubs for the National League's second Wild Card.

Dave Roberts, who played two seasons of his 10-year career with the Padres, will take over the team while it searches for an interim manager for the remainder of the season. The former outfielder served as Black's bench coach since the start of the 2014 season.

In nine years with the Padres, Black held a 649-713 record and was named the 2010 National League Manager of the Year, but the Padres never reached the playoffs under Black.

Black was hired on Nov. 8, 2006 and was the second-longest tenured manager in the NL behind Bruce Bochy, who left the Padres to manage the rival Giants weeks before Black's appointment.

>>Padres Wil Myers Headed Back To DL

San Diego Padres outfielder Wil Myers is headed back to the disabled list with a lingering wrist injury, the club announced on Monday.

width=Myers is dealing with tendinitis in his left wrist, an ailment that has already caused the young outfielder to miss 28 games on a prior DL stint.

The 24-year-old was activated from the disabled list last Thursday and played in three straight games before sitting out Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In his first season with San Diego, Myers is batting .277 with five home runs, 19 RBI and 30 runs scored. He was acquired from Tampa Bay in the offseason.

The Padres recalled right-handed pitcher Cory Mazzoni from Triple-A El Paso to take Myers' place on the active roster.

>>Rangers Rookie DeShields Headed To DL

The Texas Rangers placed outfielder Delino DeShields on the 15-day disabled list Monday, one day after the rookie injured his hamstring while chasing a fly ball.

DeShields crashed into the left-field wall when retrieving a drive off the bat of Minnesota's Shane Robinson during the sixth inning of Sunday's game against the Twins. Robinson tripled on the play and DeShields came up limping and holding the back of his left thigh.

Selected from the Houston Astros in the Rule 5 draft this past offseason, DeShields had emerged as Texas' starting left fielder with slugger Josh Hamilton currently sidelined. The speedy 22-year-old leads the team with 13 stolen bases and owns a .358 on-base percentage in 48 games.

With DeShields out, top prospect Joey Gallo will make his first career start in left field when the Rangers host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday. Additionally, Texas recalled second baseman Rougned Odor from Triple-A Round Rock.

Odor opened the season as the Rangers' everyday second baseman but was sent to the minors on May 11 after hitting just .144 in 29 games.

>>Heston, Stanton Share NL Weekly Honors

San Francisco Giants pitcher Chris Heston and Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton were named co-winners of the National League Player of the Week award on Monday.

Heston threw the first no-hitter in the majors this season in a 5-0 win over the New York Mets last Tuesday. The right-hander recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts as he became the first rookie to toss a no-hitter since Boston's Clay Buchholz on Sept. 1, 2007.

Stanton led the majors with five home runs, 12 RBI and a 1.280 slugging percentage. The right fielder collected 13 hits while batting .520.

>>O's Machado AL Player of the Week
Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.

Machado batted .458 (11-for-24) with two home runs, drove in five runs and scored nine times over six games.

Others considered for the award were Detroit's Miguel Cabrera, Toronto's Russell Martin and the Angels' Albert Pujols.

>>Royals Continue To Dominate AL All-Star Ballot

The Kansas City Royals dominance in the balloting for the American League's All-Star team has increased in the latest tabulations, with the defending league champions now in line to have eight of the nine starters for the upcoming Midsummer Classic.

Omar Infante joined teammates Salvador Perez, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain, Alex Gordon and Kendrys Morales as leaders at their respective positions.

Infante, who is hitting only .204 without a home run and just 17 RBI in 53 games, has moved past Houston's Jose Altuve to take over the top spot at second base and is currently ahead of the reigning AL batting champ by just over 300,000 votes. Altuve, who hit .341 last season to become the first batting champion for the Astros, is currently hitting .290 with five homers and 27 RBI in 61 contests for the AL West-leading Astros.

Perez continues to pace all AL players in votes received with 7,202,292 and owns a commanding advantage at catcher. Moustakas and Escobar also are in front comfortably at third base and shortstop, respectively.

Cain and Gordon continue to rank first and third, respectively, in the outfield, with Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim star Mike Trout holding second as the only non-Royal to presently hold down a starting spot. Another Kansas City player, Alex Rios, currently occupies fourth place among outfielders.

Hosmer is less than 500,000 votes clear of Detroit's Miguel Cabrera in the race at first base, while Morales has a lead of nearly 550,000 over Seattle's Nelson Cruz at designated hitter.

Kansas City's eight projected starters would set an All-Star Game record if the voting holds. The New York Yankees had six in the 1939 edition.

The 2015 All-Star Game is scheduled for July 14 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
