Illini Guard To Redshirt, Then Trasnfer

width=Illinois basketball coach John Groce (GROHS) says reserve guard Mike LaTulip will sit out the next season and transfer for his final season of eligibility.

Groce said Monday that he and LaTulip had discussed the decision. The coach said he supported the move.

LaTulip will be a senior this fall. According to the university, he anticipates getting his bachelor's degree in the upcoming school year and then transferring. Under NCAA rules that would allow him to play immediately after transferring.

Groce said he and his staff would help LaTulip find a destination that is a good fit.

LaTulip started his career as a walk-on but was awarded a scholarship for most of his junior season. He played in 44 games over three seasons.
