DeWitt County Sheriff Defends Police Forces

As America debates whether there is a problem with police officers in America, one local law enforcement official says despite the media reports, the numbers domestically indicate differently.

DeWitt County Sheriff Jered Shofner recently spoke about violence in America involving law enforcement. He indicates the Public Agency Training Council compiles statistics each year on violence in America involving law enforcement.

According to the Sheriff, the statistics would indicate 33-percent of assaults against police officers are with a deadly weapon. He feels there is plenty of evidence to support police officers defending themselves.

Based on the statistics, the Sheriff also points out, there should be over 3-thousand annual instances of police officers using deadly force, however, that just isn't the case.

Many incidents across the country have involved white police officers and minorities. According to Sheriff Shofner, those statistics reveals the picture painted by mainstream media isn't necessarily accurate.

The Sheriff says it is often the only thing people see are the incidents broadcast on television or published online but the thousands of other peaceful interactions are not reported on. He feels this has painted a false reality of what is happening across the country.
