Durbin Wants More Done With Guns, Mental Health

After the mass shooting at a black church in Charleston some lawmakers are looking again for answers to stop the all too familiar news.

Senator Dick Durbin says that there needs to be a way to keep the hands of those with serious mental illness gun free. Durbin wants background checks for gun purchases to include more safeguards.

Durbin knows the trouble with such a plan comes at trying to draw a distinction at what mental illness is enough to prevent someone from buying a gun.

Durbin says there are many forms of mental illness that don’t pose a threat to someone owning a gun, but more needs to be done and wants to do everything reasonable and humanly possible to keep guns out of the hands of mentally ill.
