Sox, Cubs Win; Cards Rocked

 width=>>Beckham Sends Sox To Walk-Off Win

Gordon Beckham homered on the first pitch of the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Chicago White Sox a dramatic 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers in the finale of a three-game series.

Beckham's homer to left on a 70 mph changeup from Alex Claudio (1-1) came in his first at-bat of the game. He entered as a defensive replacement in the 10th and started a double play that got Chicago out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 11th.

Melky Cabrera had a career-high five hits for the White Sox, who won the last two games of the series on the heels of an eight-game losing streak.

Starter Jose Quintana went seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks, and Jake Petricka (2-2) pitched the 11th for the win.

Ryan Rua hit his first homer of the year for Texas, a solo blast in the first inning, and Leonys Martin added a game-tying solo shot in the seventh.

The White Sox had just six baserunners in the first five innings against Yovani Gallardo and didn't score until he was out of the game, taking a 2-1 lead on Alexei Ramirez's RBI single and Conor Gillaspie's sacrifice fly off Ross Detwiler in the sixth.

But Martin led off the seventh with his fifth homer of the season, a blast to right that made it 2-2.

Cabrera got his fifth hit in bottom of the 10th, a two-out single, but was erased at second base on Ramirez's grounder.

The White Sox escaped a bases-loaded jam with another double play in the 11th when Hanser Alberto bounced to the third baseman Beckham, who went home for the first out.

 width=>>Arrieta Leads Cubs Over Minnesota

Jake Arrieta fired his second career shutout and the Chicago Cubs blanked the Minnesota Twins 8-0 in the rubber match of a three-game set.

Arrieta (7-5) struck out seven and scattered four hits for the Cubs, who had dropped three of their last five games coming into the contest.

Dexter Fowler smacked a grand slam, Anthony Rizzo cracked a solo homer among his two hits and two runs scored and Starlin Castro added three hits, an RBI and a run scored in the triumph.

Kyle Gibson (4-6) surrendered two runs on six hits and three walks with six punchouts for Minnesota, which dropped the last two games of the series.

The Cubs plated a run in the third and added another in the fifth to open the scoring.

Rizzo walked to lead off the third and after Kris Bryant struck out, Miguel Montero's single to right-center put runners on the corners. Rizzo scored on Castro's sacrifice fly to center.

Rizzo's blast to center to start the fifth made it 2-0.

Chicago broke the game open with a six-run eighth.

Castro singled and Chris Coghlan doubled off the top of the wall in right- center to put runners on second and third. Chris Denorfia was intentionally walked and Kyle Schwarber reached out and poked a base hit to left to push across Castro and Coghlan.

Addison Russell walked and Fowler launched his grand slam into the seats in right to make it 8-0.

 width=>>Phillies Stop Cardinals

The Philadelphia Phillies turned to a 25-year-old rookie to help end a historically poor stretch of play, and Adam Morgan delivered.

Morgan pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball and the Phillies picked up a 9-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals to avoid a series sweep.

Morgan (1-0) gave up six hits and struck out six in his major league debut, earning the first win for a Phillies starter since May 23, when Cole Hamels won in Washington. Starters had gone 0-16 during a 4-21 stretch since then.

St. Louis outscored Philadelphia 22-5 over the first two games of the series, and the Phillies had a minus-53 run differential over their last 11 games, but the bats woke up on Sunday. Maikel Franco and Ben Revere had three hits apiece and Andres Blanco hit his second home run of the season.

The Phillies handed Michael Wacha (9-3) just his second road loss of the season after pounding the young ace for five runs on eight hits over five innings.
