After Second Major, Spieth Closing In On World No. 1

width=Jordan Spieth won his second straight major championship at the U.S. Open, but remained No. 2 in the world rankings.

Spieth trailed No. 1 Rory McIlroy by 3.65 average points last week, but narrowed the gap to 1.72 average points thanks to his win at Chambers Bay.

Following those two was Dustin Johnson, who 3-putted for par on the final hole to end one behind Spieth. Johnson improved four places to No. 3.

Justin Rose and Bubba Watson traded places with Rose up to fourth. Former U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk tumbled three places to No. 6 and Henrik Stenson was down one to seven.

Jason Day, who battled through vertigo to finish tied for ninth, improved a pair to eighth and that pushed Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler down to nine and 10.

Adam Scott and Jimmy Walker exchanged places with the former Masters winner up to 11th. J.B. Holmes, Hideki Matsuyama and Patrick Reed were 13th through 15th again this week.

Louis Oosthuizen, who shared second with Johnson at Chambers Bay, jumped 11 to No. 16 and Matt Kuchar was up one to 17th. Chris Kirk dropped a pair to 18th, Billy Horschel improved one to 19 and Phil Mickelson was down three to 20th.

Last year's U.S. Open winner Martin Kaymer slid out of the top-20 to 21st, while three-time U.S. Open champ Tiger Woods dropped 10 spots to No. 205.
