Cubs, Cards, Sox Win

 width=>>Cubs Outlast Dodgers

Chris Denorfia drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Chicago Cubs to a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second of a four-game set on Tuesday.

Mike Baxter and Matt Szczur each singled and pinch-hitter Dexter Fowler worked a walk to load the bases off Joel Peralta (1-1) to start the 10th. Travis Wood came on to run for Fowler and Kenley Jansen took over on the mound.

Jansen got Addison Russell to ground into a fielder's choice that retired Baxter at home for the first out, but Denorfia hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field in the next at-bat, plating Szczur for a Cubs win.

Chris Coghlan doubled and Jason Motte (5-1) earned the win after tossing a flawless 10th for the Cubs, who won their fourth straight game.

Starter Jason Hammel pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with six strikeouts in the no-decision.

Yasiel Puig's triple was just one of three Los Angeles hits. Zack Greinke's winless streak stretched to nine starts after giving up just three hits and two walks while fanning five over six frames.

Mark Reynolds provided the tie-breaking RBI hit in the seventh inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals overcame Giancarlo Stanton's 26th homer of the season and held on for a 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins.

Xavier Scruggs doubled in two runs and scored the go-ahead run. Jason Heyward belted a solo homer for the Cardinals, who won for the third time in four games.

Carlos Martinez (8-3) had nine strikeouts and gave up eight hits and three runs over seven innings to win for the fifth time in his last six decisions.

Stanton's titanic two-run blast to left field, a 484-foot shot in the first inning, and Adeiny Hechavarria's RBI single in the second wasn't enough run support for Jose Urena, who yielded six hits and three runs over five frames.

Sam Dyson (3-3) gave up a single to Scruggs to start the seventh. Martinez then squared to bunt, but was hit on the right shoulder by a pitch. One out later, Randal Grichuk was hit by a pitch on the rear end to fill the bases. Reynolds then smacked a ball that deflected off the foot of Dyson. Shortstop Hechavarria barehanded the ball, but his throw was wide and late to first.

The Marlins put men on the corners in the eighth, but Kevin Siegrist struck out Justin Bour to end the inning.

Pinch-hitter Donovan Solano singled off Trevor Rosenthal with one out in the ninth, but the closer came back to get Dee Gordon to ground into a double play for his 22nd save.

Jose Abreu went 4-for-5 with two runs scored to help the Chicago White Sox to a 6-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.

Jeff Samardzija (5-4) went seven innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts for the White Sox, who have won three of four.

Chicago had gone winless in its previous five games at Minnesota this season, including Monday's series-opening loss.

Geovany Soto had a pair of RBI, while Adam Eaton, Melky Cabrera and Gordon Beckham each drove in a run.

Eddie Rosario hit a home run for the Twins and Kurt Suzuki knocked in the other run. Mike Pelfrey (5-4) took the loss after giving up three runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 frames.

Chicago tied the game at 1-1 on Soto's RBI knock in the fourth, then Suzuki doubled home Torii Hunter in the home fourth for a 2-1 edge.

Soto knotted the score once again with a run-scoring hit in the sixth and Chicago gained the lead for good with four runs over the final three innings.

Abreu singled with two outs in the seventh and Adam LaRoche walked prior to Cabrera's RBI single to center. The White Sox again used some two-out hitting in the eighth as Eaton followed Carlos Sanchez's ground-rule double with a double of his own to make it 4-2. Hunter's throwing error in the ninth allowed Abreu to score and Beckham accounted for the final margin with a pinch-hit double.

Jake Petricka pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to record his second save of the season.
