State Sen. Continues Call For Legalization of Fireworks

width=Another 4th of July has come and gone, and one local lawmaker continues to call for the legalization of fireworks in Illinois.

State Sen. Chapin Rose began his campaign last year to legalize fireworks. He says the state is missing out on revenues and jobs by allowing its residents to cross state lines for products deemed illegal by the state.

The Senator points out when people spend the days prior to the 4th of July traveling across the borders, there is tax revenues going to other states because Illinois doesn't allow the sale of fireworks here.

When it comes to the safety side of handling fireworks, Sen. Rose points out people are already getting hurt from fireworks they can't have in the state. He says accidents are going to happen and has put provisions into his bill to allow part of the sales tax to go towards EMS crews to better their response and services.

Sen. Rose the argument for fireworks use correlates with the argument the state doesn't tell people to not use cars because someone might get hurt or use knives or motorcycles or anything because of the risks involved.

He also points out he has received resounding support for this effort from his district in the past year.
