>>Giants Star DE Hurt In Fireworks Accident

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul suffered a hand injury during a fireworks mishap on Saturday, according to multiple reports.

Pierre-Paul was hurt while attempting to light fireworks and his injury required hospitalization, NFL.com reported on Sunday.

width=A spokesman for the Giants said he didn't yet know any facts about the incident.

Pierre-Paul, 26, was drafted by the Giants No. 15 overall in 2010 and has made two Pro Bowls in five seasons, collecting 42 sacks and 286 tackles in 75 games.

The Giants used their franchise tag on Pierre-Paul in March but he has apparently not yet signed his $14.8 million tender.

>>Jets DL Richardson Suspended Four Games

The NFL has handed New York Jets Pro Bowl defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

Richardson, the 2013 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, will sit out the first four weeks of the upcoming season after testing positive for marijuana, a league source told the New York Daily News.

The third-year standout will be eligible to return for the Jets' home game against Washington on Oct. 18, which follows the team's Week 5 bye.

Richardson made an immediate impact after being taken by the Jets with the 13th overall pick of the 2013 draft. The 24-year-old recorded 78 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks in his debut to earn Rookie of the Year honors, then followed up with an eight-sack campaign while starting all 16 games this past season.

The Jets do have depth along their defensive front, however, having taken highly regarded USC lineman Leonard Williams with the sixth overall choice of this past draft. The rookie will likely slide in opposite stalwart Muhammad Wilkerson while taking Richardson's place at defensive end.
