>>Cubs Blank Marlins
Kyle Hendricks tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his first home win of the season as the Chicago Cubs snuck past the Miami Marlins 2-0 on Sunday.
Hendricks (4-4) was 0-2 in six starts at Wrigley Field this season, but he found the win column after holding the Marlins to five hits during his 91- pitch outing. Hendricks walked one and struck out six.
His counterpart Mat Latos (3-6), who entered the game with a 4-0 career mark at Wrigley, allowed just one run on one hit with seven strikeouts over seven innings for Miami.
His lone blemish came in the first inning, when Chris Coghlan drew a one-out walk and moved to third on Kris Bryant's single to left. After Miguel Montero went down swinging for the second out, a low fastball got away from catcher Jeff Mathis and Coghlan scored without a throw.
Jason Motte sealed the deal for Chicago with a 1-2-3 ninth.
>>Cardinals Down Padres
After scoring both runs in Saturday's win, Tommy Pham drove in all three in the St. Louis Cardinals' 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres to earn a split of the four-game series.
Pham's first career home run erased a 1-0 San Diego lead, and his double in his next at-bat added an insurance run.
Starter Lance Lynn (6-4) shut down a dormant San Diego offense, allowing just an unearned run on three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in seven innings.
The Padres, who have only scored 13 runs in losing five of their last seven games, could not support starter Ian Kennedy (4-8). He allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings with four strikeouts and no walks, but his bats could only provide three hits.
Lynn quickly retired the first two batters in the third, but a two-out walk to Yangervis Solarte led to San Diego's only run. Lynn's errant pickoff attempt allowed Solarte to move into scoring position, and Matt Kemp drove him in with an RBI single.
Lynn also helped himself at the plate. He led off the third with a single to set up Pham's home run to left field that gave the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage.
Leading off the fifth, Lynn hit a ground-rule double and scored when Pham doubled over Will Venable's head in left field.
Starting with the final out in the third, Lynn set down 11 in a row before Venable singled with one out in the seventh. He then got Austin Hedges to ground out before striking out Brett Wallace to end his outing.
Seth Maness pitched a 1-2-3 eighth, and Kevin Siegrist also got the Padres to go down in order in the ninth for his fourth save.
