All-Star Game Rosters Announced; MLB Notes

The Kansas City Royals owned the fan voting Sunday night and added a few more names to the 2015 American League All-Star Game roster Monday.

The AL-leading Royals lead all teams with six All-Stars and have an opportunity to add a seventh as the rest of the rosters for the Midsummer Classic were unveiled.

Catcher Salvador Perez, shortstop Alcides Escobar and outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon will start the game, while relievers Kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis will join that quartet in Cincinnati. Third baseman Mike Moustakas, meanwhile, is one of the five candidates for the Final Man vote.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's Albert Pujols, who leads the AL with 25 homers, will start at first base in place of the Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera. The 10-time All Star Cabrera went on the disabled list for the first time in his career Saturday with a calf injury.

The Toronto Blue Jays' Russell Martin and Oakland Athletics' Stephen Vogt are the other catchers and the Boston Red Sox' Brock Holt and Cleveland Indians' Jason Kipnis were named as the other second basemen alongside the Houston Astros' Jose Altuve. The Tigers' Jose Iglesias is the other shortstop and the Baltimore Orioles' Manny Machado will join the Toronto Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson at third base to round out the infield.

Donaldson set an all-time All-Star Game voting record with 14,090,188.

Toronto's Jose Bautista, Baltimore's Adam Jones and Detroit's J.D. Martinez were named reserves in the outfield. The Angels' Mike Trout is the other starter.

The Texas Rangers' Prince Fielder made the team as a designated hitter.

The Tampa Bay Rays' Chris Archer, Oakland's Sonny Gray, Seattle Mariners' Felix Hernandez, Houston's Dallas Keuchel, Detroit's David Price and the Chicago White Sox' Chris Sale are the starting pitchers.

The New York Yankees' Dellin Betances, Tampa Bay's Brad Boxberger, Baltimore's Zach Britton, Baltimore's Darren O'Day and the Minnesota Twins' Glen Perkins were named as the other relievers.

Boston shortstop Xander Bogaerts, Detroit outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and Twins second baseman Brian Dozier join Moustakas on the final vote.

Washington Nationals outfielder Harper (13,864,950) set a National League All-Star Game voting record. The 22-year-old is hitting .344 with 25 homers and 60 RBI so far this season.

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen will start in the outfield for the injured Giancarlo Stanton. The Miami Marlins' slugger leads MLB with 27 homers. The Los Angeles Dodgers' Joc Pederson, Arizona Diamondbacks' A.J. Pollock and San Diego Padres' Justin Upton are the other outfielders. The St. Louis Cardinals' Matt Holliday earned the third outfielder starting nod.

St. Louis' Yadier Molina and the Dodgers' Yasmani Grandal join starter Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants at catcher. Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt will begin the game at first base and the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo and the Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez are the reserves. The Colorado Rockies' D.J. LeMahieu and San Francisco's Joe Panik will man the pine for the Dodgers' Dee Gordon at second base.

Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta and Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier round out the starters in the infield. San Francisco's Brandon Crawford will replace Peralta and Colorado's Nolan Arenado and the Cubs' Kris Bryant will take over for Frazier.

Washington's Max Scherzer, Pittsburgh's Gerrit Cole, the Dodgers' Zack Greinke, Atlanta's Shelby Miller, the New York Mets' Jacob deGrom, San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner, St. Louis' Michael Wacha and Pittsburgh's A.J. Burnett are the starting pitchers.

St. Louis' Trevor Rosenthal, Pittsburgh's Mark Melancon, Cincinnati's Aroldis Chapman, the Philadelphia Phillies' Jonathan Papelbon and the Milwaukee Brewers' Francisco Rodriguez were named the relievers.

Fans will select between Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw, St. Louis starter Carlos Martinez, Cincinnati starter Johnny Cueto, Mets reliever Jeurys Familia and Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki for the Final Man on the NL side.

Once again, the winner of the All-Star Game will give its league home-field advantage in the World Series. Any starting pitchers who throw Sunday, July 12, will not be eligible to pitch in July 14th's game at Great American Ball Park.

The American League earned a 5-3 win last year at Target Field, but the Senior Circuit still owns a 43-40-2 mark in the all-time series.

>>Tigers OF Martinez Player of the Week

Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.

Martinez hit four homers and drove in 10 runs over six games to earn his second career AL weekly honor. He went 11-for-24 (.458) and led the majors in slugging percentage (1.000).

His week began with back-to-back three-hit games versus Pittsburgh, and finished it by going deep in consecutive games against Toronto.

Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz and Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland were among those considered for the honor.

>>Brewers 3B Ramirez Named NL Player of the Week

Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez was named the National League Player of the Week on Monday.

Ramirez led the majors with a .545 (12-for-22) batting average and .577 on- base percentage. He drove in 11 runs, scored four runs and hit a home run over seven games.
