Rauner Pushing For Pension Reform

Governor Bruce Rauner is talking pension reform once again. Now he has included some new wrinkles.

He says the new plan to address underfunded pensions would save billions of dollars a year. Rauner called the effort fair and reasonable to workers and taxpayers and takes steps to freeze worker salaries for five years and then would offer workers the options of getting raises, more vacation or overtime but only if they agree to switch to a less generous pension plan.

Rauner says this reform stands on it own and he won’t require it to be signed to get a budget.

Rauner says the bill is over 500 pages long and it includes reforms saught by Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
