Scwharber Sends Cubs Past Reds; Cards Crush Sox; Cards Recall Top Prospect

>>Schwarber Sends Cubs Past Reds

Kyle Schwarber's solo home run in the 13th inning led the Chicago Cubs to a 5-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the second of this four-game series.

width=Schwarber belted a pitch from Nate Adcock (1-2) over the wall in right, and Justin Grimm pitched a 1-2-3 home half for his second save of the season.

Schwarber hit a two-run home run in the ninth to send the game to extra innings, and finished the game 4-for-7 with four RBI. Chris Coghlan also hit a solo home run for the Cubs, who have won three of their last four. Jason Motte (7-1) tossed two scoreless innings of relief for the win.

Todd Frazier drove in three runs and Skip Schumaker had an RBI for the Reds, who have lost three of their last four.

Jason Hammel went five innings for Chicago and was charged with two runs -- one earned -- on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts, while Raisel Iglesias lasted 5 2/3 frames for Cincinnati and allowed two runs on six hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

Cincinnati got on the board in the first as Brandon Phillips singled, moved to third on a Dexter Fowler error off a Joey Votto fly ball, and came home on Frazier's sacrifice fly.

The Reds made it a 2-0 game in the second on Schumaker's groundout that scored Marlon Byrd, who had reached on a single and wound up at third after another single and wild pitch.

Chicago cut its deficit in half in the fifth, as Addison Russell walked with one out, moved to second on Fowler's single, and came home when Schwarber hit a ground-rule double. Iglesias limited the damage by striking out Kris Bryant and forcing a line out from Anthony Rizzo.

In the sixth, Coghlan tied the game with his home run to left, his ninth of the year. It initially fell for a triple, but a replay showed it had cleared the wall and the game was tied.

Phillips and Votto hit singles in the seventh to leave runners at the corners, and Votto stole second. Frazier then dropped a single into shallow left that scored both runners for a 4-2

The Cubs, though, tied the game in the ninth as Fowler led off with a single and Schwarber crushed a pitch well over the wall in right for his second of the season.
