Any freeze in property tax must come with local cost control measures.

That’s according to Governor Bruce Rauner in response to a measure passed by the Senate that freezes property taxes -- but without allowing local governments to opt out of prevailing wage or collective bargaining mandates.

The Senate’s property tax freeze would also change the ramp for some Chicago pension funds and sunset the current school funding formula in two years, but it does not include the cost controls the Governor has pushed as part of his Turnaround agenda. Speaker Michael Madigan said the House will hear the measure next week in committee.
