It was a strong opening weekend for the Illinois State Fair.

Saturday featured the highest grossing day in State Fair history when it comes to admission fees paid. State Fair Manager Patrick Buchen says a fast start is crucial to a successful fair.

The 2015 fair's luck continued to be excellent as strong storms in Central Illinois largely spared the state fairgrounds, despite strong winds at one point.
