Pet Owners To Hear Trial of Woman Charged With Killing Dog

A jury composed of current and former pet owners will hear the trial of a Champaign woman accused of placing her former boyfriend's puppy in a hot oven, killing it.

According to reports, the six jurors and two alternates chosen Tuesday in the trial of 24-year-old Kinny Redmon all said they could remain impartial.

Redmon has pleaded not guilty to animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals.

Urbana police have said the former boyfriend found the 3-month-old pit bull dead inside the 300-degree oven on June 4 after Redmon called him telling him he'd find the dog there. The two had been fighting.

Assistant Public Defender Stephanie Corum tried to limit prosecutors' use of the word puppy to avoid playing on jurors' emotions. A judge denied the request.
