Golden State Hires Former PG Nash As Development Consultant

width=The Golden State Warriors are coming off their first championship in 40 years and looking to defend it with a full squad throughout the organization. They traded away David Lee this summer and lost assistant coach Alvin Gentry, who is now the head coach in New Orleans. But other than that, everybody is coming back for the title defense in the 2015-16 season.

A big part of that title defense will be making sure the skills are sharp and the team keeps trying to improve, rather than getting complacent with their success. They're bringing in one of the hardest workers of the past 15 years and one of the most skilled players in NBA history by reportedly hiring Steve Nash as a part-time player development consultant.

Nash has a history with Steve Kerr, who was his general manager in Phoenix from 2007 to 2010. Kerr was tasked with bringing the hopeful title contenders over that hurdle they couldn't seem to clear against teams like San Antonio and Dallas each season. Kerr still had the team built around Nash, who was a two-time MVP, but tried to make it a bit more traditional with a trade for Shaquille O'Neal.

It didn't work out for the Suns, but they still had quite a bit of success. Nash eventually moved on to play for the Lakers in 2012, and Kerr went back to the announcing table before taking over as coach for the Warriors last season. Nash will now work with helping players hone their skills, but probably doesn't have to do much with reigning MVP Stephen Curry, who Nash is a pretty big fan of watching.
