Clinton Police Chief Discusses Railway Safety Week

 width=Anyone familiar with the history of Clinton, Illinois knows this community was founded thanks to the expansive rail system that ran through the community at one time.

According to Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers, because of that, this week's "Rail Safety Week" initiative holds great importance for local residents. He says the week is designed to bring awareness for motorists and pedestrians when they encounter the rail systems that run through every community.

According to the Chief, there are laws that accompany the railroads in Illinois as it relates to both motorists and pedestrians. He says it will be those laws they are especially focused on this week in hopes of raising awareness.

Given the statistics from last year involving train or railway incidents, accidents and even fatalities, Chief Lowers says it simply a matter of safety when adhering to the laws surrounding railroads.

Chief Lowers indicates any time there is an accident that involves trains or the railway system, it is likely a significant and severe case.
