RECAP: Clinton Maroons Defeat Central A&M

As heard Friday night on 1520AM / 92.3FM WHOW, the Clinton Maroons picked up their first Central Illinois Conference win of the season on the road against Central A&M, 45-42.

In a game that saw a little bit of everything, including an hour long lightning delay, Clinton was able to score just enough to hold on for the win.  The Maroons were paced by Stephan York Country Financial Player of the Game, Alec Cooley, who ran the ball 36 times for 244 yards and a touchdown.  Junior quarterback Noah Griffin overcame two first half interceptions to finish the night 11 of 15 passing for 161 yards and 3 TDs.  Griffin also ran 8 times for 55 yards and 2 scores.

The Maroons receiving core was led by Logan Winter's 4 catches for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Tanner White also had a 41 yard touchdown catch, and threw an 11 yard score.  Dalton Whitted had 3 receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown.  He also had two key fumble recoveries.

Despite giving up 42 points to the Raiders, the Maroons defense had three key 4th down stops in the game, including a 4th and goal from the one yard line, and a 4th and goal from the 6 yard line.

Central A&M was led by sophomore quarterback Jameson Smith, who finished the night 18 of 26 passing for 257 yards, 3 touchdowns, and an interception.  The Raiders also had tailback Austin Black run 20 times for 117 yards and a score.

The win moves the Maroons to 3-1 on the season, and 1-1 in the Central Illinois Conference.  A&M falls to 1-3 on the season, and 0-2 in conference.

Clinton plays next Friday night on the road at St. Teresa.  Hear the game on 92.3FM WHOW and online at DeWittDailyNews.com.
