Former University of Illinois Chancellor To Return To Teaching During Spring Semester

Former University of Illinois Chancellor Phyllis Wise will start teaching in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology in the spring.

According to reports, interim Chancellor Barbara Wilson says Wise is working with the department this semester to determine what classes she will teach. Wise chose not to take a year-long sabbatical.

Wise resigned last month after the university revealed more than 1,000 pages of emails in which she and others used personal email accounts to discuss university business. As a tenured professor of molecular and cellular biology she will earn $298,926. She won't receive a $400,000 bonus after politicians complained.

Professor Milan Bagchi is head of the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology. He said Wise also will help mentor faculty and advise graduate students.
