Michelle Van Valey Announces Candidacy For Circuit Clerk

 width=The Circuit Clerk's office in DeWitt County will be contested race in the upcoming spring primary.

Michelle Van Valey has announced her intention to seek the position of DeWitt County Circuit Clerk.

Van Valey is a native of Clinton and has over 14 years of experience working in the DeWitt County court system. last 10 years have been spent working in the DeWitt County State’s Attorney’s Office.

While at the State’s Attorney’s Office, Van Valey initially served the citizens of DeWitt County as their Victim/Witness Coordinator, assisting in preparation of Orders of Protection, providing notifications to victims, obtaining restitution information from victims, maintaining data for State grants funding her position, as well as other administrative duties as assigned by the State’s Attorney.

Currently, Van Valey serves as the Office Manager for the State’s Attorney’s office and is responsible for overseeing the internal functioning of the office including: preparation of case files and pleadings, submitting payroll documentation, procuring necessary equipment on behalf of the office, supervising the State’s Attorney’s budget by documentation of all expenditures and income, and coordinating scheduling of cases with other courthouse and law enforcement personnel.

Van Valey also spent four years as the Family/Child Support Clerk in DeWitt County under former Circuit Clerk Kathy Weiss. While serving in this capacity, Van Valey was responsible for addressing questions from the public, maintaining official court records, and providing assistance to the Court in the courtroom.

Van Valey will be on the republican ticket, challenging current Circuit Clerk Pam Barnes.
