Bloomington, Normal Passes Tax For Mental Health Services

Bloomington and Normal Aldermen have passed a sales tax that will in part help fund mental health needs.

The director the of the Department of Public Health in Illinois is announcing that pregnant women and new mothers are the most in need. Director Nirav Shah (Shaw) says that was the latest determination after results of a recent health assessment were released.

That includes providing more support for pre-pardum and post-pardum depression.

According to Shah, they do a good job of taking care of the physical needs of pregnant women and new mothers in Illinois, but the psychological needs of those women is lacking.

Shah says he will be watching to see if that funding mechanism will help to improve the outreach to pregnant women and new mothers.
