Mets, Dodgers Notes

>>Mets Harvey Apologizes For Missing Team Workout

Matt Harvey somehow managed to ruffle feathers and find controversy, even though the Mets are several days away from Game 1 of the NLDS, and he isn't scheduled to pitch for a week.

width=Harvey was the only Mets player late for a workout Tuesday at Citi Field, saying he was held up in traffic on the way to the ballpark, specifically that he was stuck in one of New York's infamous tunnels between the boroughs. Mets manager Terry Collins told him to turn around and go home because he probably would miss the event, but Harvey showed up anyway in order to apologize to teammates and issue a statement.

Just what the Mets wanted, on what was basically a day off, with just a light workout planned, ahead of the start of the playoffs. They don't actually play against the Dodgers in Los Angeles until Friday night, and Harvey isn't set to pitch until next week when the series heads to New York.

Collins says that Harvey will be fined for being tardy, and is still scheduled to start Game 3 on Monday night.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson and star David Wright were not happy with Harvey, whose story of dominance on the mound has been clouded by recurring controversy.

Harvey came to a media platform after the workout and gave up his mea culpas:

Harvey said quote - "I basically -- you know, there's no excuse -- I screwed up. I wasn't here. I showed up a little late. I've talked to Sandy, I've talked to Terry, and my teammates, and apologized to them. I've apologized to everybody. I'm here to get my workout in and be with the team. Unfortunately today, I screwed up. There's not really anything else to say. They know what happened. I've told everybody and apologized to everybody. It won't happen again and it hasn't happened before."

width=>>Dodgers To Turn To Kershaw in Game 1 of NLDS

We knew the first two pitchers in the Dodgers' playoff rotation would be Cy Young contenders Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw. As it turns out, though Greinke probably has a leg up in the Cy Young vote, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has elected to go with Kershaw as the Game 1 starter in the NLDS round against the Mets.

Not surprisingly, the club announced the Greinke would be going in Game 2. As for Game 3, it'll be left hander Brett Anderson.

Kershaw, 27, would be the obvious ace on most teams. He's won three of the past four Cy Youngs along with the 2014 NL MVP. This year, he was 16-7 with a 2.13 ERA and 301 strikeouts -- the most in MLB since 2002.

Having Greinke (19-3, 1.66) around forced Mattingly into actually making a decision, though.

Anderson, 27, was 10-9 with a 3.69 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 116 strikeouts in 180 1/3 innings. He led the majors with a 66.3 percent groundball rate this season.
