Local School Leader Does Not Like PARCC Tests

It's not because the scores are anticipated to be very low in the first year of the new PARCC testing in Illinois that one local school leader does not like the testing.

The first year of the PARCC assessments in Illinois are anticipated to be very low. In preparation of that, the State Board of Education has released a warning to area school leaders of that information, however, it's not because of those scores that Lincoln High School Superintendent Robert Bagby does not like the tests. He says it is because the tests are 'meaningless' compared to assessments of the past.

Now that Bagby knows the test scores are expected to be very low, with a majority of Illinois students not meeting the standards, he believes it makes the validity of the testing that much more questionable.

Bagby says the School Board of Education is in a tough spot because of recent transitions, however, he feels the low scores are not adequately reflecting the hard work of the teachers and students in Illinois schools.

Bagby indicates his students did very well last year. He explains Lincoln students scored better than the state average in each subject except for science.

Bagby says he puts a lot of stock into the ACT.
