Cowboys To Turn To Matt Cassel After Bye Week

width=According to ESPN's Ed Werder, the Cowboys will start Cassel against the Giants two Sundays from now, as the team is currently on its bye week. Weeden started all three games after Tony Romo went down with a broken clavicle during the second game of the season.

The Cowboys lost all three games that Weeden started, but it's tough to pin all of those losses solely on Weeden. In his three and a half games as the Cowboys' starter, Weeden didn't necessarily play well, but he did complete 72.4 percent of his passes for 739 yards, two touchdowns and two picks. And, against the Falcons and Saints, the team put up a combined 48 points.

But against the Patriots, Weeden reverted back to his old horrible self, averaging less than five yards per attempt and compiling a passer rating of 67.

Meanwhile, Cassel started the season in Buffalo, where he competed for the Bills' starting gig over the summer. After losing out to Tyrod Taylor, Cassel was traded to the Cowboys in the wake of Romo's injury. Now Cassel has his shot to hold down the Cowboys' starting job until Romo returns, which can't happen until Week 11 at the very earliest.
