Local Administrator Says PARCC Scores Should Be Taken With Grain of Salt

This week we've outlined the responses of area administrators to the news that the first year of the PARCC testing did not go over well.

According to Superintendent of Maroa-Forsyth Schools, the first year scores need to be taken with a grain of salt. He explains the tests are new in so many ways and he wants to see the individual scores before they get concerned.

According to Williams, the PARCC tests ultimate objective is to better test students and have a standard that level across the state and nation. Williams believes schools and students cannot be judged on one test.

In order to not be judged on one test that administrators, including Williams, call a single point in time, he feels there needs to be a way for districts to tell their individual stories. He believes eventually the PARCC tests will do that but for now, there are a lot of holes.

Williams believes the PARCC assessments are going in the right direction. He says changes are in place for this year that should allow for improvements but he says it will need to be continuously evaluated.

Williams feels the state needs to stick with the PARCC assessments if that is the model they want to follow. He believes it does no good to jump from assessment to assessment.
