DeWitt County Sheriff's Dept. Picking Up Unused Prescription Drugs

 width=The DeWitt County Sheriff's Office is starting a program that piggy-backs something in place within the Clinton Police Department.

DeWitt County Sheriff Jered Shofner (right) indicates they are doing an unused prescription drug pick up. He explains they will send a Sheriff's Deputy to the homes of disabled residents of DeWitt County to dispose of those prescription drugs.

The Sheriff reminds residents who are able to get out and about, the Clinton Police Department accepts prescription drugs at their lobby. Those can be dropped off at any time, day or night.

The Sheriff says the use of prescription drugs and narcotics are a major problem not just in the United States, but DeWitt County. The Sheriff says many of those drugs have a massive value on the black market.

According to the Sheriff, the targets of home burglaries have shifted greatly since he started in law enforcement 25 years ago.

The Sheriff indicates, it's not always outside thieves owners of those medications need to worry about, but rather a member of your own family.
