Ohio State Still No. 1; Memphis Breaks Top 25

>>AP Poll Welcomes Memphis

With the top seven teams from last week's poll all victorious, there wasn't too much upheaval at the top of the Week 7 AP Top 25, though three new teams debuted in the poll's bottom 10 spots.

Among them were Memphis, left out of last week's balloting despite the Tigers' 5-0 start. There was no doubt after their upset of Ole Miss on Saturday, however, and the Tigers entered at No. 18, one of four Group of Five teams in the Week 7 poll along with No. 19 Toledo, No. 21 Houston, and No. 22 Temple. The Rebels slipped 11 spots to No. 24.

width=Ohio State continued its reign at No. 1 after comfortably beating Penn State, pulling 28 first-place votes of a possible 61. The top five was rounded out by No. 2 Baylor, new No. 3 Utah, No. 4 TCU and new No. 5 LSU, up one spot after beating previous No. 8 Florida. Clemson dropped one spot to No. 6.

UCLA, Northwestern and Boise State each dropped out of the poll, making room for new entrants Memphis, Temple and No. 25 Pitt. After losing to Michigan State on a last-second fumble return, Michigan dropped only three spots into a tie at No. 15, making the Wolverines the only two-loss team in the poll's top 23.

>>Coaches Poll Welcomes Temple, Memphis

The latest coaches poll Top 25 didn't see much of a shakeup after its top nine teams all won on Saturday, and Ohio State remains the poll's comfortable No. 1 with 45 of a possible 63 first-place votes.

The Buckeyes rolled Penn State 38-10 to stay 59 points ahead of No. 2 Baylor. No. 3 TCU, No. 4 Michigan State and No. 5 LSU rounded out the top five with 17 first-place votes between them.

The poll's biggest drop belonged to Ole Miss, which lost at undefeated Memphis and slipped from No. 12 to No. 23, while Justin Fuente's Tigers went from No. 22 to No. 17, the poll's biggest rise. After losing in agonizing fashion to Michigan State, previous No. 14 Michigan fell to No. 17.

Entering the poll this week were No. 22 Houston, No. 24 Temple and No. 25 Georgia, while previous No. 18 UCLA, No. 20 Boise State and No. 21 Northwestern dropped out.
