State Representative Jerry Costello II is drafting legislation inspired by the deadly July attack on military personnel in Chatanooga, Tennessee.
The Smithon (St. Clair County) Democrat has filed a bill to add attacks on retired or current military personnel as a hate crime.

It's not addressed in the legislation but Costello is weighing in on military personnel who aren't allowed to carry weapons in places like recruiting centers.
