Political Expert Says Compromises Are Available

As the State of Illinois continues into unprecedented territory, one political expert says the situation is only worsening the future of the state.

Kent Redfield is a political science expert at the University of Illinois Springfield and says there are compromises to be made, however, he says the governor may be asking for too much when it comes to collective bargaining for public employees.

Redfield says the long term effects on the state are going to take at least a decade to dig out of. He believes warnings made by former state leaders need to be taken seriously by Governor Rauner.

Earlier this week, Illinois was downgraded on the Fitch Ratings and Redfield indicates when the state goes to borrow money, that is only going to put them farther behind than they already are.

Many Republicans have backed the tactics used by Governor Rauner lately, and Redfield indicates the party will continue to back the Governor, especially because he bankrolled the party during the last campaign.
