Mets Tab Harvey For Game 1; Cespedes Ready For Game 1

The New York Mets now know they'll be heading to Kansas City to face the Royals in Games 1 and 2 of the World Series. With several days off, manager Terry Collins could set up his rotation however he wanted it. Here's how he has chosen:

1. Matt Harvey
2. Jacob deGrom
3. Noah Syndergaard
4. Steven Matz

width=Collins told reporters that he wanted Syndergaard to pitch at home and for deGrom to have an extra day. While deGrom would have been on five days' rest for Game 1 anyway, an extra day certainly doesn't hurt this late in the season.

The four young guns have gone 6-2 with a 2.65 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 54 1/3 innings this postseason, easily the best work of any playoff rotation. By comparison, the Royals' rotation has a 5.56 ERA this postseason (they get the job done in other areas, of course).

Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes had to depart Game 4 of the NLCS early due to a shoulder injury -- with controversy attached, since he had golfed earlier that day -- but the World Series doesn't start until Tuesday. He told reporters at a workout/press conference Saturday that he feels better.

If Cespedes couldn't go at any point in the series, the Mets can go with defensive star Juan Lagares in center field, flanked by Curtis Granderson in right and Michael Conforto in left. As things stand, however, that shouldn't be necessary.

Cespedes, 30, hit .291/.328/.542 with 42 doubles, six triples, 35 homers and 105 RBI this season. This postseason he's hitting .265/.286/.471 with a double, two homers and seven RBI.
