Bears WR White Not Close To Return

The first pick of the Ryan Pace era in Chicago likely won't see the field until the 2016 season.

width=In August, rookie wide receiver Kevin White underwent surgery to repair a stress fracture in his shin. The Bears placed White, the seventh overall pick in the draft, on the PUP list hoping he would be able to return late in the season. Now seven weeks into the season, White doesn't seem to be close to making his NFL debut.

While at a Bears community event Tuesday, White told reporters that he's "a long way off" from returning to the field.

Dealing with more than just White's injury at wide receiver, the Bears offense currently ranks 24th in passing yards per game, though that can also be attributed to Jay Cutler's injury in the early portion of the season, which forced Jimmy Clausen into action. Furthermore, with Alshon Jeffery now apparently healthy for really the first time all season and with Cutler playing efficiently, the Bears offense could take off.

Still, the Bears will miss White's presence on the field. In White's final season at West Virginia, he caught 109 passes for 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Bears will have until the end of Week 11 to activate White. If they don't, he'll be officially out for the entire season.

width=>>Reports Indicate Colts Mulling Firing Chuck Pagano

Chuck Pagano's days in Indianapolis appeared to be numbered, and at this point, it's a matter of when, not if he gets fired. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported last month of the growing friction between Pagano and general manager Ryan Grigson.

And the coach's job security wasn't helped by one of the worst special-teams plays in recent history against the Patriots in Week 6 followed by a punchless effort seven days later in a home loss to the Saints.

The good news for Pagano: he has a job ... for now.

The bad news for Pagano: the Colts' bye week is Nov. 15 and they have to face the Panthers and Broncos between now and then. Two more blowout losses will almost certainly be the end of the road, which would make for an amazing turn of events. Pagano won 11 games in each of his first three seasons in Indy, and took the Colts to the AFC Championship Game in January.

>>Giants Resign Jason Pierre-Paul

The Giants have re-signed defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to a one-year deal, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The team confirmed the signing Tuesday evening.

General Manager Jerry Reese says they are excited to see Pierre-Paul return and credits the hard work of the defensive end.

Pierre-Paul, who suffered a fireworks-related hand injury in early July, visited with the team the past two days and will continue his recovery with the club. The hope is he can return in late November as he continues to come back from losing part of his hands in a fireworks explosion.

Pierre-Paul says he's excited to rejoin the team.

Pierre-Paul has played 75 games for the Giants during his five-year career, racking up 42 sacks while forcing eight fumbles and intercepting two passes, both of which were returned for touchdowns.
