Heyworth Superintendent Taking Wait and See Approach With PARCC Tests

The leader of a central Illinois school district says he is indifferent when it comes to the PARCC testing and wants to see more from the tests before he makes any judgments.

Heyworth Schools Superintendent Dr. Ty Wolf believes the PARCC tests are a different way of testing and feels they are designed for more critical thinking. He notes the old multiple choice style of testing is proving to be not as effective.

To this point in time, Dr. Wolf does not believe the PARCC assessments can be labeled good or bad. He explains the tests aim to get students to think at a higher level.

Dr. Wolf believes challenging kids is a good thing and feels the goals of the PARCC tests are to get students to think more critically, however, he feels the testing can't be the only measure to a student's success.

Last year was the first year of PARCC testing and Dr. Wolf says despite less than positive news as it relates to the student's scores, he'd like to see more of it before he jumps to any conclusions.
