NORML Says Illinois Should Note Failed Legalization fo Marijuana in Ohio

Illinois should take note of the recent failure of a measure to legalize recreational and medicinal marijuana in Ohio to ensure any proposed measure don’t limit the free market of legal pot.

Dan Linn, the executive director of the Illinois Chapter of NORML tells WMAY Springfield the failure of a ballot initiative in Ohio this week to legalize cannabis was partly because the measure was not a free market approach because it restricted growing operations to just a handful. Linn says that’s very similar to Illinois’ current Medical Cannabis Pilot Program.

Linn says only allowing a select few investors to benefit from the pilot program could lead to those investors getting some kind of carve out if Illinois ever does legalize and tax pot.
