The turmoil continues at the University of Illinois.
Today, interim Chancellor Barb Wilson elected to terminate the contract of Athletic Director Mike Thomas. She says the University extended a “without cause” separation plan with Thomas. It comes after a report was released that showed mistreatment of football players under former head coach Tim Beckman. The report cleared Thomas of any wrong doing but Wilson says the athletics are key component of any university system.
Thomas will be paid $2.5 million in separation fees; this comes on the heels of the firing of Tim Beckman earlier this year.
An interim athletic director has been named but neither would comment on current interim head football coach Bill Cubit’s future.
