The entire manufacturing sector of Illinois has been deteriorating over the past year and some analysts are calling it a recession in manufacturing.
That’s according to Illinois’ Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability. In their October Report COGFA says data indicates the state’s manufacturing sector is nearing contraction with Chicago’s manufacturing sector shrinking in September.
There was an increase in Chicago manufacturing in October but overall the Windy City’s manufacturing sector was 15 percent weaker than the year before.
COGFA adds Illinois saw a decline of 6,300 manufacturing jobs in Illinois from a year earlier.
