South Dakota State Defeats Illinois State; No. 6 Virginia Tops Bradley

Reed Tellinghuisen had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead South Dakota State to an 83-67 victory over Illinois State on Thursday night.

 width=Tellinghuisen made two 3-pointers, and was 3 of 11 from the floor for his first career double-double. George Marshall led all scorers with 18 points. Deondre Parks scored 15 points, Jake Bittle had 11 and Ian Theisen added 10 for South Dakota State (3-0).

DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell scored 15 points, Paris Lee 14 and MiKyle McIntosh 12 to lead Illinois State (1-2).

Akoon-Purcell made a 3-pointer to pull the Redbirds to 22-18 midway through the first half. But Mike Daum made a layup and Parks a 3-pointer to spark a 14-3 run that stretched the Jackrabbits lead to 36-21.

An 11-4 surge gave South Dakota State a 51-32 halftime lead. Tellinghuisen scored 7 points and Bittle added 5 points during the span.

 width=Anthony Gill scored 16 points, Malcolm Brogdon had 13 and No. 6 Virginia bounced back from its first loss of the season with an 82-57 victory over Bradley at the Charleston Classic on Thursday night.

The Cavaliers (2-1) fell at George Washington on Monday and opened this one a bit sluggish as if still dealing with that loss and trailed 22-19 in the opening half. That's when Virginia took off on an 18-3 run to put the game away.

The demolition continued in the second half as the Cavaliers stretched the lead to 31 points.

Virginia will face Long Beach State here Friday night for a spot in Sunday's championship game.

The Braves (1-2) are one of the youngest teams in the country, starting four freshman against the ACC powerhouse. Eventually, the Cavaliers experience took control.

Luuk Van Bree had 16 points, off four 3-pointers to lead Bradley.
