After the first firearm deer season of 2015, one Department of Natural Resources official says the harvest from the first season was good despite poor weather conditions.
Snowfall was a big factor in a slowdown in the first firearm hunt of the season according to DNR Conservation Police Officer, John Williamson. He says deer numbers across the state are up though, including those harvested.

The big story is the rebounding of the deer numbers following 2013's outbreak of EHD, a disease from the drought that killed off a great number of the state's deer population. Williamson says usually the third year after and EHD outbreak is when the deer population reboundeds.

Unofficial numbers from DNR in the first week of the firearm deer harvest indicate nearly 58-thousand deer were harvested compared to just under 52-thousand from last year.
Randolph County had the highest number of deer harvested with over 16-hundred.
The next firearm deer season is December 3-6.
