Durbin has said the current vetting process is a proven success with refugees and he believes history will take issue with the tenor of the debate, namely the words of Senator and Presidential candidate Ted Cruz.

Durbin says demanding that refugees be victims of genocide would have closed doors on a number of groups in America's recent past.

Durbin says France's President in particular is not holding Syrian refugees accountable for the actions of terrorists who struck their nation's capital. They are accepting 35,000 Syrian refugees.
