Maroa-Forsyth Schools Bracing For Property Tax Freeze

width=Entities across the state differ on whether a property tax freeze would go into effect as Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner wants the measure as a part of his turn around agenda.

Because of the possibility of the property tax freeze, districts and other governing entities are reacting by increasing their yearly levies. Williams notes Maroa-Forsyth is but it is not in reaction to the possibility of the freeze, however, they are taking other actions to brace for such an event.

There's also speculation that if the tax freeze goes into effect, it could become permanent. Williams believes that is a definite possibility.

Williams emphasizes the property tax freeze doesn't actually freeze the rate, it freezes the "actual amount of dollars" and points out any local growth would not be able to be accessed by the various governing entities.
