Local law enforcement officials in Clinton will be participating in the annual Shop with a Cop event.

The event is organized by the DeWitt County Angel Tree and Police Chief Ben Lowers says it is an event he and his staff enjoy participating in and look forward to it year in and year out.

Thanks to a grant through corporate Walmart, the Clinton police force along with the DeWitt County Sheriff's Department and the Clinton Fire Department are going to be able to provide this opportunity. Chief Lowers appreciates the opportunity provided by Walmart over the years.

Chief Lowers notes some of his staff might get so invested in the child they're paired with, they many times will use their own money to provide more than what is provided through the grant they receive and what is allotted for each child.

DeWitt County Angel Tree handles all the selections of the children, and those families have previously submitted an application to be a part of the program for this year.
