Clinton Schools To Propose One-Cent Sales Tax Again

width=Next spring, DeWitt County residents will once again vote on a measure for a sales tax that will provide additional revenue to the county's schools.

Superintendent of Clinton Schools, Curt Nettles explains the one-cent sales tax referendum will appear on the ballots this spring and the funds from the tax would only be able to be used on facilities and capital projects.

Two years ago when the referendum was voted on, the annual revenue from the tax was projected at around $700-thousand, but Nettles indicates they will have a new analysis done to update those figures.

With the funds from the tax, Nettles indicates he'd like to beef up security at their grade schools and look at some things at the high school as well.

The district would also aim to use the money to lessen the burden on the taxpayers. Nettles indicates the funds from the one-cent sales tax could be used to abate taxes.

Nettles indicates once the new year arrives, there will be more information coming out to inform the public. Nettles says it is his goal to give as much information as possible to the residents of DeWitt County to make an informed decision.
