Social Security Says Scams Continue To Be An Issue

The number of people falling victim to scams continues to climb across the nation and one government agency is reaching out to provide helpful tips to keep you from falling victim.

Jack Myers with Social Security emphasizes agencies like Social Security, the IRS, or any other arm of the government is not going to contact you via a phone call or email. He says any time you get a call or email from someone claiming to be from that kind of agency, that should be a red flag.

Myers indicates he fields questions all the time about a phone call or email from social security or the IRS, however, he says the action taken by agencies like theirs, is first a written notice in the mail.

Myers says another tactic used is a promise tactic. He says if you are ever promised more benefits from an agency like social security, that is not accurate. He says their business is not conducted like that.
