New Year's Eve long ago became stuck with the label of "amateur night", describing drinkers who got out of hand in various ways to open a new year. For 29 years, Springfield has been among cities offering an alternative with an alcohol free, family friendly event in First Night.
A number of performers including musicians, among them an Elvis impersonator, dancers, puppeteers, comedians and more, will be a part of the festivities in Downtown Springfield. While the event typically has been popular with families, Troy Roark with the Springfield Arts Council, says they are hoping to draw in a new audience.

Roark says there will be an exciting new addition to the typical 8pm fireworks display.

From 6pm to 11:15 PM, the city becomes a stage, with over 30 performances taking place on eight stages in downtown Springfield. Wristbands are $18 at the door, $15 in advance. For more info, check otu wwwspringfieldarts.com.org
